The countdown is officially on. The 3rd annual Elevation Awards show takes place on Saturday, April 6th and I couldn’t be more excited.
My blog, This Bahamian Gyal, is nominated for Blog of The Year.
I’ve been racking up a lot of nominations of late and I’m so grateful, especially considering that my blog is only a year old.
A Reception for the Elevation Awards Nominees
Last night, the organizers of the awards show hosted a reception for all of the nominees.
Naturally, I decided to take my niece, Ashlee along as my date. She is a creative person and she was with me when I first thought about launching my blog, so it was only fitting that she be there.
Besides, I drag her along to most of my events because she always makes it fun.
It was great rubbing shoulders with so many talented people.
I got to meet Grammy award winner, Rik Carey, lead singer of Baha Men, the internationally renowned group. Yes, the “Who Let the Dogs Out” group. I have been a fan of his forever as he’s incredibly talented.
Sharing My Goals
Travis Edgecombe, whom I have known for years, interviewed me for the Elevation Awards team.
He asked me about the blog and where I see myself in a few years. I told him that I would love the opportunity to write for Essence Magazine, which is probably my all-time favourite, magazine.
I also hope to be interviewed by Oprah one day. Hey, when I dream, I dream big!
This recognition from the Elevation Awards is not only an honor, but it really feels good to know that people are recognizing my hard work.
I have such high hopes for the This Bahamian Gyal blog and this is just the beginning.
