I need a vacation. So, I’m taking one.
Today, I head to Abaco to get some much-needed R&R. The last time I was on the island, it was 2002. That’s 16 whole years!
Some of the islanders left a bad taste in my mouth, so I was in no hurry to return.
Even though Abaconians are a proud people and always boast of their island, I always remember some of the white Abaco residents who seemed irritated that black folks were there. So, it was never at the top of my list.
A friend of mine was supposed to join me, but had to back out due to unforeseen circumstances. So, I’m travelling solo and I’m excited.
I’m very adventurous, so I’m eager to see how Abaco has changed and snap a bunch of photos.
One of the places I plan to visit is the Hope Town Lighthouse. It’s hard to think of Abaco without envisioning that beautiful red and white candy-striped lighthouse. It’s one of the last manual lighthouses in the world. I have to take a ferry to Elbow Cay where the lighthouse is located and I’m so looking forward to that. I love being on the water.
More than anything, I am looking forward to swimming on the beach and just reconnecting with nature. Salt water has healing properties and I’m hoping the salt air can clear my head.
I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. But, you are right…some white Abaconians do act like they don’t want black people around. That is giving the island a bad name. But, there are lots of good people here. You are going to like it.

Thank you so much, Tabitha. This visit really made up for everything. I had a fantastic time, especially in Hope Town. I’m already thinking of buying property in Abaco. That’s how much I enjoyed it. Thanks so much for reading. Stay tuned.
