I never need an excuse to go to The Island House’s Thai restaurant, Shima. The food, atmosphere and service is so good that I’d be a fool not to go.
So, when my good friend, Devano invited me to brunch and then extended a generous offer to treat, it was a no-brainer.
Devano and I met more than four years ago when we worked at the same company and have been good friends since then.
Something New
I’ve been to Shima many times for dinner, but have never had brunch there. So, I was curious to see if they would have a good menu.
I was happy to learn that the chargrilled salmon that I love so much was on the brunch menu. It is my absolute favorite entrée. I don’t know how they do it, but it is consistently good.
I am a huge fan of coconut milk and dry red curry. It’s the perfect pairing. I could literally eat this salmon every night. Because of the spices, I decided to pair the fish with jasmine rice.
The fish was so fresh, spicy and tasty. Just thinking about it makes me hungry all over again.
While there, my friend and I ordered the roti and cheese as well as the crispy pork dumplings.
I never knew roti could taste so good. It was my first time eating it and it didn’t disappoint.
Those Food Network Shows Taught Me A Lot
The pork dumplings were paired with a vinegar sauce. I have to admit, that sauce was not my favorite because the dumplings already had a salty element, so I think it needed a sweet sauce to tone it down. Thank God for those Chopped episodes. They really taught me a lot about balancing flavours.
The staff at Shima is so accommodating that they brought out a sweet tamarind sauce for my dumplings and that completely elevated the taste. So, if I order the dumplings again, I plan to ask for tamarind sauce.
It’s impossible to visit The Island House without walking the grounds. It’s such a beautiful, well-kept place.
I took a few shots by the pool. I can’t wait to stay there so that I can indulge, as I love to swim.
All in all, it was a great day with lots of terrific conversation and tons of laughter. It’s impossible to hang with Devano without laughing your butt off.
Until next time.
