On Monday night, I signed off for the final time from Ed Fields Live.
I have been working with the same crew for five amazing years. During that time, we became family. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Ed Fields gave me.
I fell into this role after Ed’s longtime collaborator and journalist, Kirk Smith couldn’t do the show. In fact, if you listened to the show from the beginning, the intro said, Ed Fields Live with cohost Kirk Smith. That went on for weeks.
After Kirk’s mom died and he took some time away, Ed asked me to cohost one show. I did that. Then he asked me to cohost another show. I did that. After the second show I asked him to please find a permanent replacement for Kirk as I preferred to work behind the scenes. His response, “nah, you’ll do it. You’re my cohost.”
I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to host at his side and don’t take that radio platform for granted. Ed always treated me like his peer and never demeaned me because I was a woman or younger. I will never forget that.
Several months ago, I told Ed that I was getting ready to relocate, so he needed to find a new cohost. It was a difficult thing to do because I genuinely love the show. But, he handled it with class and understanding.
I will miss my crew: Kendrick “Big Guy” Williams, Candilaria Thompson and of course, Ed, who always had me cracking up laughing. We rowed like it was nobody’s business, but we always made up immediately.
Thank you to all of the amazing listeners who have been following the show since it debuted. Your support meant the world to the show.
I would encourage people to continue listening on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on Kiss 96.1FM. It’s a terrific show and that won’t change.
On to the next chapter. That’s all folks!
XOXO,
Rogan (This Bahamian Gyal)
