Today marks the official start of the Fall season. There’s something so magical about autumn. The air turns crisp, the leaves turn burnt orange and gold and Starbucks starts offering all of our favourite pumpkin treats. It’s also nature’s not-so-subtle reminder that the holidays are on the way.
As many of you know, I grew up in the Caribbean (The Bahamas). So, we don’t have the four seasons. We have wet and dry season. Boring.

A tinge of envy would rise up in me anytime I tuned in to American television and saw women wearing the coziest coats and boots. I would secretly wish we had fall- and why not? It’s amazing.
The best part about this season is that it’s all about cozy vibes and comfort. As a homebody, this appeals to me big time. Don’t get it twisted, I still love going to my favourite pumpkin patches, but more often than not, I prefer to be home.
So, for those of you looking for an easy way to transition from the summer months into autumn, I’ve got you.
Here are 10 cozy fall rituals that you can practice and you don’t have even have to leave your house to enjoy them.
1. Start Your Mornings With A Warm Beverage
Whether you’re drinking a chai latte, hot cocoa, nutmeg-spiced coffee or just warm eggnog, nothing beats a warm beverage on a chilly morning. This is the perfect way to start your day and set your intention. Get creative with your kitchen concoctions. I know I do.

2. Light A Fall-Scented Candle
Nothing puts me in the mood for fall faster than lighting a fall-scented candle. I’m talking your apple crisps, your pumpkin chai, your pumpkin spice. Bath & Body Works has some of the most amazing-smelling candles on the market, that will leave your home smelling warm, cozy and most of all, inviting. Target also has some incredible candles that I cannot live without.
3. Bring Out The Cozy Textiles
If you’re going to mention cozy fall rituals, you have to mention the textiles. They take a top spot on the list. This is the time to swap out light summer linens for chunky knit blankets and plush pillows. My living room is my favourite spot in my home. Nothing makes me feel more cozy than wrapping up in a thick blanket on my sofa. You will get extra fall points if you update your decor with fall colours – think burnt orange, mustards and forrest greens.
4. Create And Listen To A Fall Playlist
One of my favourite things to do is listen to Jazz while I am cooking. I don’t know why, but Jazz just reminds me of fall. Always has. Everyone’s musical selection is different, so you have to find the type of music that you love. But, if John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus, Billie Holiday and Dave Brubeck aren’t on the list, we’ve got a problem. But, seriously, Jazz is a mainstay in my cozy fall rituals.
5. Make A Pot Of Soup – The Ultimate Of The Cozy Fall Rituals
Nothing warms the tummy like a good pot of soup. I remember when my mother would ask me and my siblings to buy her a soup pot for her birthday. I used to think that was so weird. But, now that I am older, I am so into soup pots. In fact, as soon as I’m finished writing this blog post, I am going to make me a big ol’ pot of peas soup and dumplings – a Bahamian favourite. But, anyway, soup is so hearty and comforting that it just amps up the fall vibes.
6. Bake A Pie
I’m really into food and nothing makes the house feel like fall more than smelling cinnamon and nutmeg baking in the oven. This is the perfect time of year to make apple crisp, apple pie or pumpkin pie. Plate that with a side of vanilla or coconut ice cream and you’ve got a winner.
7. One Of My Favourite Cozy Fall Rituals – Reading A Cozy Novel
I was in Barnes & Noble the other day and saw a poster for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow novel. I’ve never watched the movie nor read the book, so I got inspired. Fall is ideal for cozying up to a novel. Really want to make things spooky? Read by candlelight. If your eyes are terrible, scratch that. The idea, that is – not your eyes. LOL.

8. Write A Letter To Yourself
Fall is a time of reflection. The year is winding down and things are changing quickly. This is the time to pull out an old-fashioned pen and paper and get in touch with your feelings. I love writing because it allows me to look back years later and reminisce about where I was and what I was going through. Sit at a table when you do this. Even better, write by candlelight. If you’ve got bad eyes, see number 7.
9. Put Up A Halloween Tree
Ok, hear me out I know Halloween is weeks away, but how cute would it be to put up a Halloween tree this fall. When I was in Dallas for my birthday, I ended up in a store in Galleria Mall called the Holiday Decor Boutique – it’s dedicated to all things holiday. At the front of the store was the most fun Halloween tree. I plan to put one up this year. If Halloween is not your thing, put up fall decorations. Really lean into it.
10. Host A Fall Party
Fire up the fireplace, if you have one, or light a few candles on the table, pour some fall-themed drinks and have some fun snacks on hand and just have fun with it. Have your friends write letters to each other and exchange them at the end of the night. Take tons of photos, too. This is a memory they will never forget.
