Interested in learning how to be a better blogger? One that is not only consistent, but produces tasty content that will leave readers salivating for more? Keep reading.
There’s an old saying that goes, “success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.” I couldn’t agree more.
I often hear my fellow bloggers cry about not getting more readers on their blog or feeling burnt out and uninspired. Those feelings overwhelm them to the point that they become emotionally paralysed and don’t blog.
What they don’t realise is that readers will quickly move on from a blog if it dies, which is why it’s so important for bloggers to continuously pump life into their blog. And that entails making sure the blog is constantly updated with yummy content.
But, the only way that’s going to happen, is if the blogger is more consistent in posting.
A very good friend of mine always says that I could give a class on consistency. I take that as the highest compliment. I know few people are going to understand this, but I feel absolutely embarrassed if my blog is not updated.
Maybe that’s just my A-type personality kicking in. But, I love it. It keeps me consistent. And I want the same for you. Not the shame part. The consistency part.
Today, I am sharing five simple tips for you to be more disciplined with blogging.
1. Create A List Of Blog Post Ideas
I find that the main reason many people don’t blog is because they simply don’t know what to write about. I find inspiration in many places.
Sometimes, someone on Instagram will ask a question that will serve as the springboard for a great post.
If several people are asking the same question, I know that I have an opportunity to fill a need. I take a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and have real brainstorming sessions where I come up with ideas for content. I usually end up with much more content than I need at the time.
2. Being A Better Blogger Means Writing About Things That Interest You
There’s nothing worse than writing a blog post about something that does not interest you.
You will become incredibly bored and discouraged and you won’t give it your best effort. When you are passionate about a subject, you’ll find that your creative juices will flow easily.
So, write about the things that interest you.
3. Create A Posting Schedule And Stick To It
I firmly believe a blog should be updated a minimum of once a week. You don’t necessarily have to set a day for your blogs to be posted, but it should be updated regularly.
On my YouTube channel, I post videos every Wednesday at 1pm. I tell my subscribers that that’s when they can expect a video, and I deliver on time, every time.
At this point, my audience expects that my video will be published when I say it will. Remember, I hate feeling embarrassed about not posting on time, so I go out of my way to make sure it’s updated.
Once you tell your readers when they should expect a blog post, they will expect you to keep your word. And trust me, you will want to because you don’t want to look undisciplined and inconsistent.
4. I Don’t Care What Life Throws Your Way, You Have Time To Blog
Sure, life gets in the way of the things we want to do sometimes. But, how many times are you going to make excuses?
There are 24 hours in a day. Surely, you can find time to blog. Think about that TV program you watched. How long did it take? Thirty minutes? An hour? Couldn’t you have taken that time and blogged?
How many hours did you sleep today? Could you have gotten up half an hour earlier or gone to bed a little later to get the work done?
Right now, it’s 1:03 am and I’m up on my computer writing this post. I had a full day working, as well as other responsibilities, but I wanted to update my blog.
You have to be prepared to make sacrifices to get what you want and where you want.
5. Batch Your Blog Content
If you still feel you don’t have time to write consistently, then you need to focus on batching your blog content.
This means that you will have to commit a day or two out of the month to writing all of your blog pieces. If you only want your blog updated once a week that will be four posts for the month. If you want two posts per week, then that will be eight posts for the month. Surely, you can write eight posts in a day or two.
Then, you can schedule your blogs to come out when you want them to. It’s the blogger’s version of “set it and forget it.”
Doing this allows you to free up your time to do other things . . . like focus on social media or work.
Believe me when I say that if you truly want to see your blog grow and get an increase in traffic, you have to be consistent. It shows that you are a professional who values your readers’ time and loyalty.
Happy blogging!
