I love me a good matte lipstick with one big caveat – it has to be moisturizing.
I was a huge fan of MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick. The colour was so retro and highly pigmented that it immediately reminded me of those ladies from the 40s. The problem is, it is very drying. I’ve bought it twice only to give it to my sister – TWICE.
Just a month ago, I bought another MAC matte lipstick, a vibrant orange called, Quite The Standout. And boy, is it ever. It’s hands down one of the most beautiful colours I have ever seen. But, there’s one problem. Like Ruby Woo, it’s incredibly drying. My lips always feel like they’re cracking. It’s just not an enjoyable lipstick, no matter how beautiful it is.
While in the Atlanta International Airport while on my way home, I stopped inside of The Body Shop. I was looking for some vibrant lipsticks, but I did not want anything that would dry out my lips.
I don’t like to be bothered while shopping because I don’t want to feel pressured to make a purchase, so I hid over in the corner by the lipstick bar. That’s when I saw two of the most beautiful colours I have ever seen. The Havana Red Matte (410) and the Lima Magenta Matte (425).
The Havana lippie is perfect for summer and reminds me of watching a sunset from under a nice palm tree with an exotic drink in hand.
The Lima is so girlie. I instantly feel cute with this watermelon-hued gem. I can’t help but look in the mirror every time I put this on. I know, I know, I’m vain. But, trust me . . . you’ll do the same thing, too once you put this on.
I’m not big on lining my lips unless I’m wearing purples or browns. These colours pop so well and stay in place that you don’t have to worry about feathering.
I never considered The Body Shop for matte lipsticks before. I’m proud to say that they have totally converted me into a customer. We don’t have The Body Shop in The Bahamas anymore. They’ve been gone for years, but I will definitely have to order these online.
I also have to say that I also love a great lipstick with sheen. While at a recent influencer conference, I scored this new brand – at least it’s new to me because up until then, I had never heard of it – Hue Noir in Honey Chile.
It’s a chocolatey, slightly shimmery colour that is incredibly moisturising. I paired it with a lip liner from The Body Shop and now it’s one of my favourite pairings. This is proof that summer colours don’t always have to be loud and bold to be effective.
Summer, here I come. Check out the rest of the photos.
