The countdown is officially on.
The 3rd annual Elevation Awards show takes place on Saturday, April 6th and I couldn’t be more excited.
My blog, This Bahamian Gyal, has been nominated for Blog of The Year.
I’ve been racking up a lot of nominations of late and I’m so grateful, especially considering that my blog is only a year old.
Last night, the organisers of the awards show hosted a reception for all of the nominees. Naturally, I decided to take my niece, Ashlee along as my date. She is a creative person and she was with me when I first thought about launching my blog, so it was only fitting that she be there. Besides, I drag her along to most of my events because she always makes it fun.
It was great rubbing shoulders with so many talented people.
I got to meet Grammy award winner, Rik Carey. He’s the lead singer of the internationally renowned group, Baha Men. I have been a fan of his forever; he’s incredibly talented.
Where I See Myself
Travis Edgecombe, whom I have known for years, interviewed me for the Elevation Awards team.
During the interview, he asked me about the blog and where I see myself in a few years. I told him that I would love the opportunity to write for Essence Magazine, which is probably my all-time favourite, magazine. I also told him that I also see myself on Oprah’s couch being interviewed. Hey, when I dream, I dream big!
