As an Instagram lover, I’m always in search of unique locations to make my feed pop. It’s difficult to find untouched spots because almost everyone in DC in searching for new locations that aren’t overexposed. But, the fact that many of these places are popular doesn’t diminish their beauty or significance.
This is my guide to the best Instagram spots in Washington DC. This photoshoot list is not exhaustive, as there are tons of amazing spots to take photographs. So, I will continue to add to it in the coming months.
So, if you’re looking to spice up your feed, you may want to visit these top spots.
1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg Mural
Late Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, also known by her fans as RBG, was the real MVP. So, it’s no wonder that street artists would opt to honour her achievements and immortalise her with murals.
There are many murals of this Supreme Court icon all throughout the city, but none took my breath away like the one in northwest DC. Located in an alley near the intersection of 15th and U streets, the larger-than-life mural stands out in the crowded landscape.
The two-story mural is painted on the Flock DC building. The company actually commissioned the painting. It’s not uncommon to see young women snapping photos here.
2. Paul Laurence Dunbar Mural
A colourful mural of African American novelist and short story writer, Paul Laurence Dunbar sits in the same alley as Justice Ginsburg’s mural. In fact, the two murals face each other. Dunbar was one of the first influential black poets in American literature.
It’s the perfect spot to grab a photo with a historical figure.
3. Call Your Mother Deli
One look at this gorgeous deli and you will indeed call your mother. This pastel-hued gem sits in Georgetown and is famous among Instagrammers, and not just for the food. The beautiful pink and mint green deli attracts IG models like moths to a flame.
It’s not uncommon to see lines of girls setting up their cameras and tripods in order to get the perfect Instagram shot. Be sure to wear your best outfit for your photoshoot and prepare to wow your IG followers.
4. Transformer Sculptures In Georgetown
If you’re a fan of the Transformers and Bumblebee franchise, you’re going to want to visit the sculptures in Georgetown.
Located on Prospect Street, these massive robot sculptures will leave you in awe. But, you’d better get your photos soon. Some residents have already lodged complaints with Georgetown’s historic board because they want the sculptures gone. There’s no telling how long they’ll be there, so it’s best to get your photos now.
5. The Exorcist Staircase
The Exorcist Staircase is one of the most recognisable locations in the world, thanks to the 1973 classic horror film, The Exorcist. It’s notable for its final scene where Father Karras tumbles to his death after taking a demon inside of him.
Every year, visitors flock to the site, located near 36th Street NW and Prospect Street and take photos. It’s the perfect place to take a shot for Halloween or just to say you snapped photos at a Hollywood movie site.
6. JFK Mural In Georgetown
This list contains several murals because I happen to be a huge fan of street art. I feel they add such amazing colour to your Instagram feed and they are a terrific way to honour someone of importance, which brings me to the John F. Kennedy mural in Georgetown.
Head to 3401 Water Street to see the mural that honours JFK’s speech at Berlin. It’s also pretty cool to get up close and personal with the former president.
7. C&O Canal
If you pass up the chance to take photos at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Georgetown, you’re missing out on a major opportunity. The area is a wonderful spot to walk and animal watch, but it’s also fabulous for photos.
Lots of people frequent the bridge, so it can get crowded. But, if you time your visit properly you can get a clear shot of yourself alone on the bridge. Professional tip: have someone shoot you from below the bridge. The shots are magnificent. This shot alone makes it one of the best Instagram spots in Washington, DC.
8. Food Trucks Make The Best Instagram Photos
If no one has said it, I will. DC is the food truck capital of the United States. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many food trucks in my life. And what I love about them is how they each have their own unique personalities and vibrant looks.
Not many people would think of taking pictures in front of a food truck, but considering the fact that DC is full of them, you might want to reconsider.
Food trucks provide a wonderful backdrop for your photos and the city.
9. Ben’s Chili Bowl Murals
What would you say if I told you that you could take a photo with a Grammy winner, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady, Michelle Obama. If that sounds like a photo you’d like to get, then you need to go to Ben’s Chili Bowl in the northwest.
Here you’ll find a mural of the Obamas, along with Prince and many other prominent faces and figures.
It’s worth the trip.
XOXO,
