If you’re struggling to achieve your goals, you’ve come to the right place. In three steps, I’ll show you exactly what to do to make your plans come to life.
Let me first say that I know that for some people, setting and achieving goals is not always easy. I know so many people who scroll through Instagram or Facebook and beat themselves up because they feel they are falling behind in life, finances or relationships. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory. I wish it didn’t, but it does.
I also know how easy it is to make plans at the start of the year only to fall off by the middle of the year. In January, ideas are fresh and we’re feeling super motivated. But, as the months drag on, the motivation wanes.
There’s a reason for that, which I’ll explain later.
I’ve always been someone who has been incredibly focused. If I had to sum my ambition up in a line, I’d have to use one from Beyonce’s song, Formation: I see it, I want it. Cue bee emojis. I don’t say that to brag, I say that as fact.
I’ve also been someone who tends to want to do too much at one time. I have a book full of ideas and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to tick them off as I accomplish them. That’s the virgo in me.
In fact, I often wish I could duplicate myself and have one version manage my blog, the other manage my YouTube channel, and the other manage the freelance gigs. Since I can’t do that, it means I have to be incredibly disciplined and focused, which brings me to my first tip.
1. To Achieve Your Goals, You Need Razor-Like Focus And Discipline
I know so many people who balk at the idea of being focused. They feel it’s restrictive. They want the success and they certainly want to achieve their goals, but they don’t want to buckle down and do what it takes to get there.
That’s like saying you want to buy a house, but not taking steps to improve your credit score or saving the down payment to buy the damned thing. It just doesn’t make sense. You can’t have one without the other.
Achieving your goals means determining what you are willing to sacrifice. Let’s stay on the home buying analogy. If you want to buy your first house, you’ll have to save for the deposit. That means, you can’t go away with the girls to Miami. It’s nice to have a great time and take photos that will make all of your Instagram followers jealous, but once the trip is over, you’ll still be renting and no closer to moving into your dream home.
But, when you’re focused, you won’t be tempted by the prospect of sunbathing in Miami Beach. Owning your home will mean more to you. And when you’re disciplined, you follow through despite the fact that your girlfriends may try to guilt-trip you.
2. You Have To Truly Want To Achieve Your Goal
I know many of you read my second point, scratched your head and let out an audible, huh? Allow me to explain.
Some of us are desperately trying to achieve goals we don’t really have for ourselves. For example, your parents may want you to go to a certain university or to pursue a certain major, but that’s not what you want for yourself. Or your boss may want you to pursue a certification that you have absolutely no interest in. You end up resenting it. You procrastinate, and then it all falls by the wayside.
You should be pursuing goals that not only add value to your life, but make you happy.
I have a high school friend who loved doing hair. She talked about it all the time. Her hair was always fly and people would tell her all the time. She was an A student and many people, including her parents, wanted her to pursue medicine. They felt it was a sensible career path that would afford her the life they wanted. But, she hated medicine. She loved doing hair. She eventually rebelled against her parents.
Not many people are bold like her. Some will pursue goals and dreams they have no business pursuing. I truly believe that most people will achieve their goals if it’s something they absolutely want to do. If they feel coerced or guilt-tripped in any way, they will procrastinate.
3. You Cannot Achieve Your Goals Without Tracking Your Performance
Have you ever seen runners preparing for a marathon? They don’t just wake up one day and decide to run 26.2 miles. They prepare, and most importantly, they track their performance. They celebrate when they shave seconds or even minutes off of their time and keep score along the way.
When pursuing our goals, we have to constantly track our performance.
I remember when I started taking my YouTube channel seriously. At first, I regarded it as nothing more than a hobby and didn’t care about making money. But, when I started thinking about the financial possibilities that my creativity could provide, I got serious.
I knew that the first thing I needed to do was to gain 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours, so I kept churning out tasty content that would draw people to the channel and keep them there. Every single day – without fail – I would look at my subscriber numbers as well as the views on my videos. I tracked it all day long.
In July, my channel finally got monetised after more than a year on the platform. (By the way, if you’re not subscribed yet, please do so).
Had I not tracked my performance, I would not have known when I needed to pivot. I had content on my channel that I was happy to create, but it wasn’t resonating with audiences. So, I had to switch gears. But, that only came because I was keeping a watchful eye on my channel.
No matter what it is that you’re doing, you have to track your performance and celebrate even the tiniest of victories. When I jumped from 500 subscribers to 600 subscribers, I celebrated. And later when I got 1,000 subscribers, I celebrated again.
Back To My Original Point
Remember earlier when I talked about how we’re super pumped at the beginning of the year, but then our motivation wanes? I said I would explain why that happens.
Well, it happens because we get discouraged when we don’t see changes happening fast enough. We look at so many overnight successes and then beat ourselves up when things don’t happen as fast for us.
I often say it takes many people years to become an overnight success. We just see the victory and not the hard work and time it took. This is why we shouldn’t compare our journey to other people’s.
It’s Time To Reflect And Reassess
We’re now more than halfway through the year. So, this is a great time to reassess your life and figure out if you’ve already met your life goals or are close to meeting them.
If not, there’s still time to execute your plans. Look, things happen. Life gets in the way, finances change, emergencies happen, but you have to stay the course to achieve your goals in one way or another.
It’s important to remember that we have the power to design the lives that we want. We can have the extraordinary life that we’ve always dreamt of, but we have to make the effort to see it through.
I’ve had many setbacks, emotional and financial, but I immediately recalibrated and moved forward.
Headwinds will come, but you have to keep moving forward. Especially if it’s something you really want.
I also believe very strongly in writing down my plans. There’s something to be said about writing down your goals. When you see your words staring back at you, you will be compelled to get things done. And if you don’t, your words will serve as a constant reminder. Embarrassingly so.
Even if you have not met all of your goals for the year, you still have time. Don’t be afraid to pivot. You still have time. Good luck!

I seriously love your site.. Very nice colors & theme. Did you make this web site yourself?
Please reply back as I’m wanting to create my own site
and would like to learn where you got this from or just what the theme is named.
Cheers!

Hello Kinogo. Thank you very much. I appreciate you saying that. No, I did not make the website myself. I got it from an online company called, 17th Avenue Designs. You should check them out. They have wonderful themes! You’re going to fall in love.
