Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman died Friday after a four year battle with colon cancer. He was 43.
Boseman’s death was announced on his official Twitter account.
“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV,” the statement said.
“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honour of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
Boseman died at home with his wife and family by his side.
Marvel Studios also paid tribute to its fallen star on its Twitter page.
Boseman was best known for his turns as many American icons, including Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film, 42 and James Brown in 2014’s Get On Up. But, it was his portrayal of Marvel Studios’ superhero, Black Panther that pushed the star into the stratosphere.
In recent months, Boseman had lost a considerable amount of weight.
Online blogs had speculated that the Black Panther star was terminally ill. Others said they believed he was losing weight for a movie role.
On Friday, condolences poured in for the fallen star.
I remember watching Boseman on Get On Up and admiring his commitment to the role. He reminded me so much of the late James Brown. I really respected the fancy footwork and how much passion he injected into the King of Soul. I kept telling friends and family members, this man is going to be a superstar.
May he rest in peace.
XOXO,
