Ok, so technically, National Lipstick Day was on July 29, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to get in on the celebration.
National Lipstick Day takes place every year in the summer. Lipstick wearers sport their favourite bright, sheer or dark lipsticks on this day.
What’s crazy is that I only became seriously interested in makeup in the last two years. But, lipstick has always been present in my life.
Even before I knew how to do my eyebrows or even apply foundation, I knew how to apply lipstick and lived for reds.
Reds were my go-to colour. It was my younger sister that repeatedly encouraged me to try new colours, like purple, soft pinks and nudes. I would have never worn a nude colour without her insisting.
While I don’t feel the need to wear a full face of makeup while going out to run errands, I do ensure that my eyebrows are done, I’m wearing a bit of mascara and of course, I have on my lipstick.
I have since explored the nudes, pinks and purples out there. These are some of my favourites in this photo. Last summer, I highlighted some of my other faves.
History of Lipstick
Lipstick may seem quite innocent today, but back in 1770, the British Parliament banned this cosmetic, calling it a devilish attempt to trick men into marriage. Some even associated it with witchcraft, according to National Day Calendar.
We’ve come a long way since those days.
What I love most about lipstick is that it truly completes a look. Even if you don’t have on a full face of makeup, just a few swipes of lipstick – especially if it’s a bold colour – can really transform the wearer’s face.
