For the past couple of days, I have been focusing on me, nobody else but me.
I made a commitment to get my mind, body and spirit healthier. I had to. I looked in the mirror and saw that I had put on some pounds (late-night work hours and lots of snacking are to blame), I also felt tired, mentally exhausted and just spiritually unhealthy.
I hadn’t been eating the best, I was working myself too hard and to make matters worse, I wasn’t talking to God the way that I knew I should.
Today, I went walking for an hour and instead of listening to my Destiny’s Child tunes or some angry rap music, I tuned in to Dr. Charles Stanley’s podcast. I can’t even begin to explain how good that made me feel to be working on my body and my spirit at the same time. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.
I know a lot of people feel like the only way they can relax is to go to a spa. Trust me, I love my spa days, too. But, sometimes we just need to get still and follow through on plans to treat our bodies better.
One of my favourite things to do when I need to clear my head, is to go to the beach. I don’t live far from the water – one of the benefits of living in The Bahamas – so I head there to dip my feet in the ocean and hear the waves. I can’t begin to tell you how freeing and relaxing that feels.
If you can’t get to the beach, you can create a similar atmosphere in your bathroom, by pouring bath salts in the water, putting on some soothing beach music and just mellowing out.
Life is about balance. If we’re working too much, that’s not balanced. If we’re relaxing too much, that’s also not balanced.
Also, don’t forget to dance. Get silly and just have a great time. It’s a great healer. Trust me.
XOXO,
